Satellite7 website craftworks

The portfolio of UK-based web designer Jon Packman

Satellite7 is UK-based web design studio. Since 2007 we have worked with organisations and individuals to craft bespoke websites founded on good planning, creative design and quality code.

From mobile to laptop to desktop, you can expect an engaging experience that achieves your objectives. Whether you need a website built from scratch, a redesign, or help to grow what you have already, we provide a comprehensive service that can be tailored to your needs.

Working with the latest techniques and an understanding of your business and the needs of your customers, we aim to create adaptable websites that give users a great experience on any type of screen, in any situation.

Unconstrained by fixed pixels and dimensions, or even by content, a website can deliver itself in the most effective way possible. They should flow through devices like water, adjusting to the right course each time.

For our clients, this approach means making the most of each visit to their site. It allows key objectives to keep their focus and be successfully completed whether on a mobile or monitor.

I was a happy man when Dianthus contacted me to redesign the original website I built for them in 2007. Back then I was just starting out in web design and lets just say it wasn't going to win any awards. The new site is much more suited to their business. Like most of the websites I design now it's coded in HTML5 and CSS3, with a fluid layout so it adapts to the screen size.

Caroline is a fine artist based in London. This one-page, Wordpress website showcases her work and activity and features a full-width, responsive design for a variety of screen sizes. It's coded up in HTML5 along with a healthy spattering of CSS3 and a vertical jquery slider I customised from Nathan Searle's excellent loopedslider.js plugin.

Ocean Soup is an educational children's book written by American author, Steve Swinburne. The website aims to engage readers and buyers alike with dynamic, informative content and fun animations using the original illustrations. It's heavy on jQuery, so make sure javascript is enabled to get the full effect. I've used CushyCMS, a hosted content management system, so Steve can update the site with news stories. The site also pulls in Steve's videos from his Ocean Soup channel on Vimeo.
Client thoughts

From our first skype conference call to the final site launches just 2 months later we had a timely and nearly flawless experience with Jon Packman and Satellite 7. It was an easy collaboration and terrific process with captivating results. We said "We want something like this," and Jon delivered. Creating 3 websites, one bespoke, another with a CMS and a small one with Wordpress Jon gave quality advice and developed them with aplomb.
Beginning with emails from the east coast of the USA to London negotiations, scheduling, deliverables, and discussions were a confidence-building progression towards the project goals. A testament to Jon's ability to deliver high quality work in short order was after we had a late delivery of some content, (what client isn't late, am I right?) that subsequently shifted our project timeline but ultimately Jon did not allow our SNAFU to impede the undertaking. Jon Packman was a real blessing, juggling project changes and maintaining calm, with a deliberate and professional manner.

STL is an architectural design firm based in east Sussex. They wanted a simple, clean design and a website that would allow clients to log in to a secure area that contained their project. This is achieved through a combination of several Wordpress plugins, which also enable STL to add new clients and projects themselves.

I really enjoyed designing this and getting the gypsy feel going with some intricate Romany-style details. Powered by Wordpress, the site features a booking calendar and enquiry form. The caravan's all booked up for summer 2010 so hopefully it's done its job.
Client thoughts

We have been delighted with the service provided. From the initial design discussion through to final upload Jon has been a pleasure to work with. He followed the original brief, explained clearly and simply any technical issues that arose and completed the work promptly. In fact we were up and running far sooner than I could have expected. His interpretation of our requirements was spot on. Communications were excellent, we were kept up to speed with progress at every stage and any changes or queries were dealt with without delay. I have been exceptionally impressed by the efficiency of this business. Most importantly, everything worked, it had all been carefully tested and proved prior to upload and we had our first booking within hours of the site being uploaded.

Built to showcase the work of paper-cut artist Julene Harrison, this website has some nifty gallery effects, but otherwise it's pretty minimal and monochrome so that her work does all the talking. The blog is a major feature so Wordpress was a natural choice to power the site.
Client thoughts

As a designer myself I wanted a web designer who would, while having their own ideas, be able to make my vision for my website come true. Jon took all my ideas and made them into something tangible and most of all workable. He understood what I was trying to achieve and made it happen. I get lots of compliments for my site. I'm very happy!

A punchy website targeting G-Floors' local area and providing nice examples of their floor-fitting work in an easily updateable gallery.
Client thoughts

I was under time pressure to get my new flooring company website up and running and Jon managed the entire process with an impressive service from start to finish. Clear directions and guidance throughout took the work and stress out of the whole process. Jon's excellent creative approach and useful suggestions all brought the project together to make our web presence exactly as we wanted. I was delighted with the finished site and amazed at the speed and efficiency of how it was produced.

Alligator publish a massive range of childrens' books and learning materials. Their old website was built on Wordpress but didn't make use of it properly and was a pain in the arse to update, so I redesigned and rebuilt it from the ground up. Its main purpose is to complement their catalogues and advertise upcoming products to the retail and mass market.

This was a personal project to test out Amazon's Astore programme. It's a customised Wordpress blog about growing plants indoors. The idea with Astore is that you run Amazon adverts for specific products and get a cut when people buy something after clicking through to Amazon from your site. It's not exactly making me millions but it does work.

Client thoughts

I was more than pleased with the results and have had such good feedback from my customers. It was great to see immediate impact through having the website and was so well worth the investment. I would seriously recommend working with Satellite 7 - with them being a small business you get a swift reliable friendly service with the professionalism and knowledge required to build a contemporary well functioning website.
